Youth Justice Services

The Youth Justice Services team at Children’s Centre Thunder Bay provides services for youth between the ages of 12 and 18 who are before the Court as a result of committing offences under the Youth Criminal Justice Act. Services are provided in three key areas:

  • Section 34 Assessments: These are mental health assessments which are ordered by the Court and will provide in-depth information regarding a youth’s family, community, psychological, and mental health needs in order to assist the Court in determining appropriate intervention
  • Mental Health Consultations Services: These consultations are available for youth involved with Creighton Youth Services, Kairos, and/or Probation, and may also assist Youth Justice Service Providers in developing an appropriate intervention plan for youth
  • Sexual Health and Relapse Prevention (SHARP): This is an intensive treatment program for youth who have been charged and convicted of committing a sexual offence, and have been referred by a Probation/Parole Officer

While individual treatment programs may vary, these services provide youth and their families with support, which may occur during their detainment in Youth Justice custodial facilities, or involvement with other Youth Justice Service Providers. Services may also include dialectical behaviour group therapy (DBT), and/or individual counselling.

These Youth Justice Services can only be accessed through Youth Justice Service Providers, or through a direct referral from the court. For more information, or to make a referral for services, please call the Access Network at 1-855-486-5037, or Children's Centre Thunder Bay at 807-343-5000.
