Family Connections

Children's Centre Thunder Bay offers the Family Connections Program, which is a group program designed to provide education, skills training, and support to parents, caregivers, and foster parents with a teen who exhibits symptoms of emotional dysregulation. These symptoms may include mood swings, difficulty managing anger, struggles with peer relationships, impulsive behaviour, self-harm, and/or suicidal thoughts/tendencies.

The program consists of weekly meetings over a 12 week period and supports improvement in parent/child relationships by:

  • Helping parents to understand their teen’s emotions and behaviours
  • Helping parents to better understand and manage their own emotional responses to situations
  • Providing parents with an opportunity to share personal experiences with other caregivers in similar situations
