Children's Centre Thunder Bay in collaboration with Child and Community Resources (CCR) provides the Autism Intervention Program, offering Intensive Behavioural Intervention (IBI) to children diagnosed with autism.
IBI is a form of Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) used to enhance the development of children with autism. This form of treatment is available to children up to the age of 5 who have been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder, and consists of 20-30 hours per week of individualized therapy and skill development.
Some of the areas that these individualized sessions focus on include behaviour management, communication and language, social skill development, academic skill development, and developing skills for daily living.
Parenting education and support is another significant component of IBI, and parental/family involvement is an essential part of the process. One of the program’s major goals is to increase the capacity of caregivers to maintain the skills that their child will develop through this program.
