Child Care Support Services (CCSS) is offered through a partnership between Children’s Centre Thunder Bay and licensed childcare programs within the City and District of Thunder Bay.
Through collaboration and planning, Child Care Support Services (CCSS) including, Resources Consultants (RC) and Social Workers (SW), work in partnership with Child Care Educators to provide a range of services to support the inclusion of children 0-12 years of age with a wide range of needs including speech and language, developmental, physical, social, emotional, and/or behavioural concerns who attend licensed child care settings. Services are offered in both English and French (if required).
Child Care Support Services include:
- Professional development opportunities
- Capacity building through coaching and modeling
- Program adaptation strategies
- Developmental screening
- Referral to community resources
- Development of Early Learning Support Plans (per Ontario Regulation 137/15)
- Individuals and program consultation

Children’s Mental Health in the Early Learning Environment
This brief presentation will provide an introduction for Educators to better understand children’s mental health in children from birth to 7 years of age. Specific examples and strategies for the classroom will be shared.
Trauma in the Early Years
Trauma often forces children to develop coping strategies that can be “challenging” in the Early Learning Environment. Learn about the different types of trauma, how they might show up in the classroom and how to support a corrective experience as an Educator. *Content warning - some may find this difficult to watch.
